The words you use are a direct reflection of what is happening within you. And the words you use have a direct impact on your conscious and subconscious thoughts. If you are making changes in your life, changing your use of words and phrases is a great place to start and consistently monitor.
I believe this is so important I have broken the list of 12 words from Debbie Friedman’s Cleaning Out the Closet of Your Mind Program into several blog posts. Every Monday for the next few weeks I am posting about the power of words with a word or phrase to eliminate, why it’s important, and some possible replacements.

There is only negative, self-defeating power in these words. These words are about limitation and restriction. These words surrender your power to something or someone else.
More powerful statements include what you can do or are doing.
Here are some examples:
- I can’t afford that dress I am trying to pay off my mortgage.
- Right now my extra money is going towards extra mortgage payments. I will soon be living debt free!
Read those statements outloud, can you hear how the first is negative and limiting? Can you hear how the later phrase is positive and empowering?
I slipped in a bonus word to eliminate…”trying”. Stop trying and just do it.
