Today’s New Habit Challenge Tip is…
Remove Temptation. If there is something causing you to falter from your habit on a consistent basis, a change of some sorts needs to occur. Either remove the things that tempt you to not create your new habit or rearrange things so the temptation is no longer standing in your way.
What are the temptations that prevent you from creating your new habit that will support you and move you closer to your goals?
For me some of the temptations that prevent me from getting to sleep at 10PM are tv, books, working too late in the evening, and playing Words with Friends. I am making changes to reduce these temptations, by watching tv shows on-demand or through NetFlix, going to bed earlier to read or research instead of watching tv, leave work earlier when there is not a conference call with Hong Kong, and not playing as much Words with Friends.
I heard somewhere that there are always at least three options to every decision. If temptation is interfering with your new habit come up with three options that reduce or eliminate the temptation then chose one to implement over the new few days. It is always better to address the temptation, than to ignore it or hope it goes away.
