What is YOUR Dream?

Today is Martin Luther King Jr Day.  Today with the slightest bit of effort you will hear MLK’s inspirational “I Have a Dream” speech and with a bit more effort may ponder “What is my dream?”

In today’s post I highlight three aspects to bringing your dream from your thoughts to our future reality.

MLK spoke about the truths we claim, but do not fully live.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.

Martin Luther King Jr., I Have a Dream, 1963.

Within your life what is the “truth” you wish to see fully embraced by all of mankind? What is the truth you would like more fully expressed in your own life?  What is YOUR dream?

MLK spoke about a legacy for his children, about a legacy for those who follow in time.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

Martin Luther King Jr., I Have a Dream, 1963.

What is the legacy you want to leave for your children and all children?  What do you want your children to learn from you?  How would you like to see the world improved?  What is YOUR dream?

MLK expressed an emotionally charged future vision.  He painted verbal pictures of what the future could look like and how people would feel.

And when this happens, when we allow freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual:

Free at last! Free at last!

Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!

What is the future state of your dream?  What will people say and do differently when your dream is realized?  How will gratitude for this change be expressed?  What is YOUR dream?

Today’s Simple Smile Igniter is to dream.  Go back through this post and answer some of the questions and paint the picture of your dream.  Then I’d love to hear a bit about your dream in the comments section.
